Growing up surrounded by the rich food culture of Chicago, Darrick developed a deep appreciation for authentic street-style sandwiches, neighborhood restaurants, and the sense of community that great food naturally creates. But he didn’t just want to serve another steak sandwich — he wanted to create something people couldn’t find anywhere else. That vision led to the creation of Shugga Shack, founded in 2018, built around a signature concept: the Sweet Steak Sandwich — tender marinated ribeye topped with a one-of-a-kind sweet signature sauce that delivers the perfect balance of savory and sweet.
What started as a bold culinary idea quickly became a growing brand, earning loyal customers who kept coming back not only for the unforgettable flavor but also for the welcoming, neighborhood-style experience that defines Shugga Shack.
As the brand continued to grow, Darrick set his sights on expanding beyond Chicago. In late 2025, Shugga Shack proudly opened its Northwest Indiana location in Miller Beach, Gary, Indiana, bringing Chicago-style steak and hoagie tradition to a new community. The expansion marked more than just a new restaurant — it represented a commitment to sharing the Shugga Shack experience with even more families, food lovers, and neighborhood supporters.
Today, Darrick remains deeply involved in every aspect of the brand — from refining recipes and developing new menu items to ensuring that every guest experiences the same quality, flavor, and hospitality that Shugga Shack was built on.
